Blue Runners are members of the Jack family and like all jacks, put up a fight on a fishing line. They are usually blue-gray or green from above with silver sides and can be distinguished from the crevalle jack by the black tips on its tail. Blue runners can be found in all depths of water and are often caught by anglers who are fishing for spanish mackerel which school with the blue runners. They can grow up to 4 pounds but are usually caught as smaller fish. While the fish is edible, it is bony and is more often used as bait for sharks or king mackerel because of the oily flesh.
