Decorated with rows of poison-filled spines, the spiky-looking crowned slug caterpillar is hardly recognizable as a caterpillar. Though it looks as if it would become something exotic, this caterpillar eventually turns into a small, brown, rather ordinary-looking moth.
Crowned slug caterpillars feed on the leaves of oaks, cherry, and other forest hardwood trees.
Look but don’t touch! Crowned slug caterpillars use their stinging spines to defend themselves.
